Pepijat Kota: it's TALENTIME

It’s about TALENTIME, a new movie directed by our very own popular movie and PETRONAS’s advertisements director my beloved kak yasmin ahmad. As always, she did really good job.I’ve been waiting for this movie since I read advertisement at kat yasmin’s blog sometimes ago. I’ll write my own review of the movie maybe next few weeks, since I planed want to catch this movie next weekend (hopefully die sudi kuar). Kat yasmin her own describe this movie “as a story full of joy and pain, hope and despair, a host of beautifully-written songs, and rich, rich characters” (source: Wikipedia).

I’ve read few times ago at her blog that kak yasmin are searching for Indian actor who is suitable to play a main role in this movie. At last one handsome guy named Mahesh Jugal Kishor pop out, out of nowhere and lead the movie to the romantic and emotion touching story. I don’t know who actually he is, whether he is already an actor before this, but obviously kak yasmin did praise him of his work and said that he able to learn to speak a new language in just a week (I mean able to communicate very well in Malay, MAYBE).

There are a few “cliché” characters (I’d say because they constantly appears most of Kak Yasmin’s movies) casting in this film, like Adibah Nor, my favorite child actor Syafie Naswip, and those who no need any introduction, popular singer Jaclyn Victor and also Pamela Chong (the sisters in amazing race Asia season 2) not forget famous comedian Harith Iskandar beside Howard Hon Ka Hoe and others.

When I read synopsis of this film, I just can’t stand with the thought and suddenly the vibe of astonishment engulf my feelings. I always excited watching kak yasmin’s movie since Sepet, Gubra, and Mokhsin (hopefully can watch Muallaf also this coming April or July not sure yet).

Here, maybe I can just briefing a little bit about the synopsis. Basically this movie concentrates between two communities; a conservative Indian family and Malay-English family when their children are in love each other but afraid to tell their family about their relationship. It all about the talent searching by Cikgu Adibah who best performer herself, and then prolong to love story between Mahesh and mix Malay girl named Melur who played by Pamela. It started when 7 contestant are qualify for the talent time that is Melur with her melodist voice whilst played piano, Ka Hoe with his violin, Hafiz with his guitar beside 4 others. They need to practice every day and Cikgu Adibah has assigned a few others student with motorcycle to fetch the finalist from home to school every day and one of them is Mahesh.From here all the love story evolves between these students. Earlier in their relationship Mahesh has strike with a bad news where his uncle who’s the care-taker of his family is stab to death on his wedding day. Mahesh has a talent with poetry and often quotes a beautiful poem with presence of Melur. Mahesh kept the relationship as secret as knowing that his family will opposed the link between them.

Unfortunately, their relationship was exposed and Mahesh di pukul di depan Melur. On the day of talentime, Melur struggle to read the poem while thinking about Mahesh. The rest of the story you will know when you watch the movie.This movie got a few good feedbacks from movie critics and select for Hong Kong International Film Festival for the SIGNIS award. Talentime will be premier nationwide on 26^th March competing with other movies.
